Obatala Team Published in Stem Cells and Development

In collaboration with authors from South Africa, Poland, and Texas, the Obatala Sciences staff published a paper, "Histology scoring system for murine cutaneous wounds", in an issue of Stem Cells and Development. The purpose of the study was to develop and statistically validate a scoring system based on parameters in each phase of healing that can be easily and accurately assessed using either Hematoxylin & Eosin (H&E) or Masson’s Trichrome (MT) staining.

Obatala Publishes Paper in Human Adipose Stem Cells

The Obatala Sciences team published a paper, "Human Adipose-Derived Stromal/Stem Cell Culture and Analysis Methods for Adipose Tissue Modeling In Vitro: A Systematic Review" in a Special Issue of Human Adipose Stem Cells. The lead author on the paper is Peyton Gibler, who worked as an intern at Obatala during the last semester of her Master's degree at Tulane University's Department of Biomedical Engineering. The paper was a review of the current state of hASC culture and assessment methods for adipose tissue engineering using 3D MicroPhysiological Systems.

Obatala Partners with New Orleans Community to Host Interns

Obatala is hosting several college interns and a high school intern in partnership with Youthforce NOLA, GNO Inc., and the Mayor's Office of Workforce Development. The collegiate interns are studying marketing Xavier University, biology at Howard University, and biomedical engineering at Louisiana State University. The high school intern is a rising senior at Livingston Collegiate.

Obatala® CEO Featured on Out to Lunch on WWNO 89.9

Dr. Trivia Frazier joined host Peter Ricchiuti on his radio program Out to Lunch, a show produced by WWNO 89.9, New Orleans Public Radio station, and INO Broadcasting Inc. Mr. Ricchiuti is a faculty member of the A.B. Freeman School of Business at Tulane University and is the director of the Burkenroad Reports program, which creates financial reports on small- to medium-sized businesses in Gulf South. On Out to Lunch, Ricchiuti speaks with two business people from the local community and discusses how their businesses fit into the New Orleans economy. Obatala Sciences and Cellspring Partner with STEM NOLA for Biotech Fellows Program

Obatala Sciences partnered with CellSpring and STEM NOLA to organize a series of workshops for high school students to be exposed to scientific research. Over the course of three Saturday sessions May 8, 15 and 22, students received comprehensive lab exposure to the work at both companies involving tissue engineering, stem cell research (stem cells isolated from adult fat tissue), and preclinical evaluation of potential therapeutics. Students learned the route that new medicines and treatments take to the clinic and the steps that ensure they are safe. Further, students learned the role that tissue engineering plays in improving the testing of new drugs.

Obatala® COO Serves as Mentor for Tulane Novel Tech Challenge

Obatala Sciences' COO, David Bode, served as a mentor to the DAWn Team in the 2020-2021 Tulane Novel Tech Challenge. The Novel Tech Challenge is a collaboration between different departments of Tulane University: the Office of Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property Development, the School of Science and Engineering, and the Lepage Center for Entrepreneurshp and Innovation, that allows students to develop and iterate new technologies and identify if there is a market opportunity for their innovations. The competition connects students to mentors and resources such as intellectual property attorneys to help them commercialize their technology. The Burton D. Morgan Foundation provides $20,000 in prizes to finalists.

The DAWn team built a cloud network to allow for remote collaboration of recording engineers who use digital audio workstations. The team consisted of Class of 2021 Engineering and Physics students: Leo Simanonok, Kaitlyn Miller, Sam Matluck, Jake Gus, Diego Pinzon. The DAWn project took 2nd place in the year long competition.

Obatala® COO Volunteers for Lepage Center Student Venture Accelerator Program

David Bode, Obatala's Chief Operations Officer, was asked to volunteer with the Albert Lepage Cneter for Entrepreneurship and Innovation the conclusion of the Student Venture Accelerator Program, a unique class taught by the LePage Center's Director, Rob Lalka. As a graduate of the A.B. Freeman School of Business, David enjoyed giving his time to help promising entrepreneurs complete their educational journey. He served as a mock board member of a venture backed company and probed the students' ideas and plans for their startup company.

Obatala® CEO Speaks to students at Tulane University

Dr. Trivia Frazier, Obatala Sciences CEO and Co-Founder spoke to students at Tulane University's School of Public Health & Tropical Medicine on April 20, 2021 as a part of the Thought Symposium: Guest Speaker Series. She was joined by Luis Belen, the Executive Director of NHIT: National Health IT Collaborative for the Underserved, and Dr. Adam Glasofer, the Head of US Public Sector Healthcare Venture Capital and Startups for Amazon Web Services.

Obatala® CSO Meets with Congressional Representatives to Advocate for NIH

Dr. Jeffrey Gimble joined with other members of American Society for Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR) to participate in ASBMR Hill Day to advocate for funding for The National Institutes of Health. He met with congressional representatives from Louisiana to inform them of the important need for continued funding of the NIH in areas besides COVID-19 research.
