New Orleans, LA – LaCell LLC and Obatala Sciences, Inc., disruptive biotechnology startups in the field of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine received a grant for $235k on May 1st. The grant was endowed by National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) for the creation of a universal medium that can support the survival of multiple tissues derived from human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), in a microphysiological system.
LaCell LLC was founded in 2010 by Jeffrey Gimble MD Ph.D. and Xiying Wu MD and, together with Trivia Frazier Ph.D., they spun-out and co-founded Obatala Sciences, Inc. in 2017. The companies synergize and focus on creating biotechnology products that advance tissue engineering research and reduce the costs of drug development.
